Went through something similar with my 987 Boxster two years back. Dealer wanted a fortune for a "full reseal" and an indie found a single bad seal. Ended up paying about a quarter of the quote and the car's been dry since.

On the M97 the usual suspects are the rear main seal and the IMS bearing area, so a borescope check makes sense before anyone throws parts at it. Cover gaskets do weep over time, especially on higher mileage cars. Did they also check the oil separator while they were in there?

What year is your Carrera and how many miles are on it? I'm at around 90k on mine and starting to see a bit of seepage. Also curious whether the indie used OEM parts or aftermarket, since that's what makes me nervous about leaving the dealer.
